r Values

Total R value is the total of each and every element that makes up the construction of a building, and includes wall/ceiling/underfloor applications such as brick, plaster, internal air, cement sheeting and so on.

Added R value is what the Foilboard® Insulation Panel combined with the adjacent still reflective airspaces adds to a particular system. The actual amount of airspace adjacent to the material will have a profound impact on the R value – the larger the space, the higher the R value. If the airspaces are ventilated or classified as open the R values will not be very high at all.

Can Foilboard Green panel be installed in conjunction with Bulk Insulation?

Yes. Although the Foilboard Green panel is designed to replace the need for bulk insulation, you can combine the two if your design and energy rating requirements call for it. For technical advice on how to best achieve this, please contact the Foilboard technical department.

Does installing Foilboard Green in my house create condensation?

No, Foilboard does not create condensation when installed. As the Foilboard is of a waterproof nature, the passing of air from one side to the other does not happen, thus the inside and outside air of two different temperatures cannot mix to create a dew point. Having no dew point the condensation is not able to be formed.

Why is one side green & the other silver?

The Foilboard Green panel is designed as a pure aluminum faced product, one side is coated in a green anti-glare layer for use in applications where the sun may create a glare issue on the construction site. The Antiglare green does not affect the performance of the product

How does Foilboard Green compare to traditional wrap & batts?

Foilboard Green Insulation Panel eliminates the need for the supply and installation of two separate products at different stages of construction. It also speeds up the construction process by getting you up to lock up stage much sooner.

The most important benefit of the Foilboard Green range is that it provides a true thermal break around a building whilst also giving equal and greater R Values compared with labor intensive batts & wrap.

Where can Foilboard be used?

Foilboard can be used almost anywhere from walls, floors or ceilings within any residential and commercial project, it is even widely used to insulate sheds and factories.

There are endless possibilities to where foilboard can be used to insulate.

How does it work?

Foilboard uses its aluminum surfaces to reflect both heat & cold energy sources. This means that in summer the heat on the outer side of Foilboard is reflected off the building, whilst also reflecting the cooler energy back inside. In winter the cold is reflected off the external side whilst the heat is reflected back into the room.

Foilboard is able to achieve this by creating a thermal-break with low thermal conductivity – it slows / stops the transfer of heat or cold, preventing the flow of energy (hot or cold) between the two different sides of the panel.

The system is also aided by using the still (unventilated) air spaces adjacent to the Foilboard surfaces, transforming the naturally still air next to Foilboard into a reflective air space. This dramatically increases the R-value of the air gap.

What is foilboard?

Foilboard® is a rigid insulation panel that is installed within existing cavities to ensure the building stays cooler in summer and warmer in winter made by applying pure aluminum to both sides of an FR-EPS Core. One side is coated with a specially formulated ink to create an anti-glare finish that does not inhibit the reflective performance of Foilboard®

Do I install the Foilboard Green horizontally or vertically?

You can install the panel in either direction. However wherever possible, to ensure the best possible fixing, we recommend to install the panels in a horizontal pattern.

Why do I need to tape the Joints?

Taping of all joins guarantees a perfect seal between the sheets, eliminating any thermal leakage, ensuring a high R value of the system.

It is important to use the Green UV stabilized PVC tape recommended by Foilboard Insulation Systems as it maintains adhesion to the aluminum surface and will not break down when exposed to UV light and high temperatures for extended periods.

Can the Foilboard Green panel be cut easily?

Yes. The panel is easily cut with the use of a snap blade / Stanley knife.

Is Foilboard Green environmentally friendly?

Yes! There are no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) nor are any CFC’s used in the manufacturing of the product. The entire product is 100% recyclable.

Designed with sustainability in mind the Foilboard® Insulation Panel will last the life of the building. It is one of very few products on the market that creates a true thermal break, meaning the long term benefits of the Foilboard® Insulation Panel far outweigh any other insulation material.

The Foilboard Green’s ability to create a more consistent temperature means you are less reliant on running inefficient heating / cooling systems thus reducing energy use and, in turn, reduces the production of greenhouse gases – creating a more sustainable future for all.

Is Foilboard Green Safe?

When Foilboard Green was developed, safety was of the highest priority. The Foilboard Green is made with a core of FR-EPS (fire retardant expanded polystyrene) and is laminated with a layer of pure aluminum. Foilboard cannot be ignited and will not spread (propagate) flame.
